I have not figured out what setting makes the user workplane the new 0.0.
On VC 7 when I create a WP, it is the point all measurements are taken.
What am I doing wrong.
thanks

If you are adding a line, for example, click on the crosshairs in the menu bar, and a Precision Point dialog should come up.

Change it from WorldXYZ to Workplane XY. Then you should be able to enter what you want, and get a predictable response.

that doesnt seem to be my problem. If I draw a circle, and select it as the workplane, then as the origin, it should read XY 0, and it doesnt. It reads from the normal workplane location.

Hmmm... Maybe a picture is in order so you can see my solution. Then perhaps you can tell me what you are doing differently.

First I drew a big circle at abs 0,0. Then I drew a smaller circle off to the right and up. I placed the workplane at the center of the smaller circle. Finally I decided to draw a line... I clicked on the crosshairs in the menubar, and changed WorldXYZ to Work Plane:XY.

Another option is to drop a point at the center of the circle. Select the point, then turn on the gripper. You can see, with the gripper turned on... the coordinates are coming back relative to the gripper.

I dont know how to do a screenshot, ny normal method "prnt screen/paste" doesnt work.

If I draw a circle off center from ABS., then select it as workplane, and origin. Then click the circle, the dims at the top of the screen are not 0.0.
I did what you said "precision point", but I need to be able to click the object and get dims relative to WP.

Yes, the World Coord. System is the default action for that. Perhaps we could talk Tim into adding a Work Coord System dropdown box in the verify command. Tim, are you there?

For your screenshots, you could try greenshot. http://getgreenshot.org/
