Hi @ all,
I'm using VIACAD 9 Pro -german version - and I have trouble when creating a wineglass following the advices in the tutorials (video and book)

Beginning with the strait single lines, following with the splines, has no effects when I use the rotation-tool.

Ok, therefor I must close all gabs with the edge-tool, but when doing this, the main-single line ist not longer a axis for the rotating-tool and -very important- all lines are now splines. the right angle of the strait single lines are mutate to a rounded curve.

It neads now a new axis like a helpline or single line, but positioned on the origine cause a failure"Self-Intersection" and it needs to move the axis outside a little bit.
Now using the rotating-tool I habe a volume object that needs to be hollow.
But using this tool is not possible, because the program will find an open face

Caused by the rounded edges between the single lines in the top plane is a Black Hole

The only one solution I have found with a negativ form of the spline curve of the outsite of the glass, and cut out this from a right angled plan. But that is not the true way for a construction.

What can I do?

Hello,

The most important modeling in Shark: Always activate snap: PLAN when you draw mode: view from above, right, front, etc.

AND .... always disable the snap PLAN when you draw in perspective mode.

If you do not, there is a good chance that your section composed of your splines, are not coplanar.

See plz my video for explanation:

Thanks,
but trying this, I had no success.

When I began in 2014 with ViaCAD I trained the drawing by repeating all tutorial and manuals and videos on YT there where no difficults. The issues occures the last 5 or 6 weeks and I have no idea what happens.
Following the wineglass-tutorial step by step, there is the first difference in using the rotation-tool. The tutorial shows a mouseclick on the axis with it and the volume body is compleat. I earn only a message, that the curves are not closed ... When I close them, all lines mutate to spline and all edges are rounded and the axis does not work. Why that ??? All toleraces-settings are zero.
Also I can not delete the Black Hole than the whole object and because this hole exists, I can not make hollow the volume body.

I tried also a simular wineglass drawed only with single lines, put them to a closed curve and all is well done. There is no Black Hole and the Solid-To-Shell is working as expected. The fault must be hidden in the function of the spline-curve.

sincerly

Antoine,
many thanks for your efforts!

Step 1 to 4 is the repeating of the tutorial step by step, draw in 2D-mode and than switched to 3D
Step 5 is the trying to follow the tutorial with the rotating-tool, but no success; message: curve open

UserPostedImage

Step 6 is the closing of the curves and it looks like this:

The message you first received was the curves were not planar. Meaning it thought that point in the curves were not all on the same plane x-y. It didn't say anything about open profiles or gaps so i would not do step 6. I would check curves in inspector and see if any have endpoints with z values.

Definitiv Z = zero for all lines; following the tutorial I draw in the 2D-mode but try it also in the 3D-mode with the same result: Z = 0
Besides that a rotating objekt only drawn with single lines or multiple lines is ok and can be hollow.
In the meanewhile I have testet all other spline-curves with the same result. All rotated objects had a Black Hole in die center.

Greetings

Hello Horst

In the step 1 to 4, the profile lathed fine for me.

In the step 5 to 6 file the centerline is part of spline. This should be a line as in the example below.

Tim

Hi Tim,

the examples below are where?

But that isn't the problem. I can use a single line or a help-line, that's going well. But the rounded egdes make the problems. It is not possible to deposit this axis-line as near as necessary to avoid the Black Hole; either I have a distance and a Black Hole or I have a self-intersection. My pictures show a grid-line in the background, that are millimeter-grid of the workplane. We are speaking about a 0,05 mm distance.

Is it normal, that the strait single lines mutate to a spline when using the curve-together-tool, when one curve is a spline and the others are single- or mutiple-lines?
And why mutate the rectangular edges between 2 or more single-lines to rounded edges when at the end a spline-curve is coupled.

Is it possible, that the english version is different to the german version?

Sincerly
Horst

The file you posted steps1-4 works when I use the lathe tool in build 1168. The connect curve tool is working as the tool is intended. It is not intended to connect 2 lines by just extending the existing lines. You should not have to use this tool in this example. The issue getting the curves to work as in your file steps1-4.vcp

If you cannot get the file steps1-4 to work what error do you get?

What build are you using? Are you on a pc or mac?

Some month ago there was an update only for the english version; therefore the last build for the german version is 9.0.4 Build 1166, updated I believe 6 - 8 weeks ago.
PC - Windows 7 Prof, 64 bit

When you can use the lathe tool after the first 4 steps of my drawing (only draw in 2D-mode the 3 single lines and the contour-spline, end-point to end-point), than there is the first issue on my softwareinstallation.
If I do this (as step 5), there is the following fault message: "Curves are not planar" and I can do none other than couple the lines and the spline with the well known consequences, > rounded edges > Black Hole > no hollowing possible. All the other tools (solids and surface) are without funktion as long as I do not couple the lines/spline.

When I draw only with single- or multible lines, all funktions are normal as expected.

My next step will be reinstalling the programm from cd.

Many thanks for your support

Hi @ all

after re-installing of the programm and setting the highest resolution all functions are well. The problem seems to be solved.

Also many thanks to Timm - member treinisch ; http://forum.punchcad.co...sts&t=7414#post27656 - for his email-support.

It didn't say anything about open profiles casesam.co.uk or gaps so i would not do step 6. I would check curves in inspector and see Samsung Galaxy S6 cover if any have endpoints with z values.
