Hello Everyone.

Thanx to Claus for his helpful tip regarding cylindrical surface resolution, I'll be sure to try that next I print.

I'm very curious now if it's at all possible to creat/add embossed printing to a surface?
I would be most appreciative if anyone could share a way of achieving this technique.

Create your text with the normal text tool, extrude your text and delete the text so you are left with the extrusion.

Create your cylinder, copy that cylinder so you have two cylinders, position the extruded text where you want it in the cylinder, then use the intersect solid tool and select one of the cylinders, then select the extruded text.

Now you should have a cylinder with the extruded text moulded to the shape of the cylinder, make sure face snapping in the gripper control is turned off and pull your text out of the cylinder until you have the required protrusion.

Join the text and cylinder by using the add solid tool and you will end up with protruding text on the same radius as the cylinder, I added a small radius to the text face before joining the text to the cylinder.

This will only work if the text is short relative to the diameter of the cylinder. If you want something like an inscription on a ring you will have to use the centre bend tool on the extruded text.

You can get quite long text strings with the bodge method. What's the centre bend tool Bill?

Yes but the ends of the text will be distorted.

Excellent suggestion Bill, the Centre Bend tool is the way to go without a doubt, I have never done any bending so did not even know it existed.
It's a far better as a you do not have to create the extra cylinder and intersect the two components.

I extruded the text as normal and used the bend tool, then I created a cylinder in the centre of the newly bent text, works a charm.

You can thank Bill JPC, my idea was a rough one that got me a result when I needed it, the bend tool will be a big asset in the future and it is of course the correct way.

Craig: as a hint I think one can/should only use True Type Fonts which can be extruded.

Thanks Garlic, I have had a lot of trouble with fonts over the years and one of the things that gets me every time is why are there so many, would it not be better to have about 20 that all worked?

...Yes to be absolutely fair, the bend tool is also a very cool way to get some stunning results.
