Good afternoon,

First I would like to say sorry if this has been covered already. My search didn't pull up what I was looking for.

My company is switching from a different drawing software to Viacad 2d. We have no need for the 3D part. Anyways, we have templates or or custom sheets in the other software that are set for 8.5" x 11" print in portrait style. There are about 8-9 pages to this template. Most pages don't need to be edited or drawn on, as they are references for our clients. The first couple are drawn on directly. I'm not sure if that is how we will go about it with this software, or just draw then do the model to sheet option. Just informing how it is currently done.

Anyways, How do I create a custom sheet template to fit and match what we already have?

I am new to the software. Played with it here and there, but it looks like we are ready to use it more.

Thank you for your help.

Hello HJ

I am thinking for the pages that are not changed save them as symbols and import into the drawing as needed. Will you be drawing all new geometry or using alot of existing stuff?

Thanks for the reply Jason,

I'll have to look into the symbols thing. Right now they have the pages with our headers and and the format they came up with years ago. It doesn't look like a typical drawing layout.
There will be a mix of existing geometry and new. Can't say the ratio. I was wonder if it's possible to create a PDF template and put my drawings in as needed. Not sure if ViaCad allows this or not.
Or like I said, How can I create my own templates or sheets in ViaCad so I can match the style we currently use?

Thanks

Hi Nick
You can import or export a lot of different file types by looking under, top left file menu and selecting import or export, which brings up a list of file types you can import or export.
I use the system that Jason suggested with the symbols. I drew up our own title information block and frame, imported a jpeg logo, saved it as a symbol and then just drag it in and resize to frame what is required.
This works fine as long as your frame is not graduated to a scale, otherwise you obviously have to take a bit more care when resizing it.

Another way you can print / save / export a drawing is by using PDF creator which came pre-bundled with Viacad and Shark on my version. You have PDF,Jpeg, PNG, and Tiff options which I have found easy to use.
Once you become proficient with viacad, drawing a frame and setting it out does not take long at all and once you sort out your own shortcuts and preferences your productivity just gets quicker.
Hope this helps.

I need to revisit this. I tired the symbol method but made things uneditable as I need. If you look at the attached pic, I need that header to be on 9 pages. I need to easily edit the fields of the job #, customer name and so on. The first 2-3 pages is the drawing I will be making. Could be a door, a gate or other things f that nature. The other pages will have default options (depending on the product) for the customer. Adding my drawing in is the easy part. If at all possible, I would like to edit a field on one page and it updates to the others.

What is the easy method to accomplish this if I can? Otherwise I will just have to setup a file with 9 pages and all info there and draw in it and edit each field individually. Hope that all made sense

Thanks

A symbol is inserted as a group. To edit an item in a group try using the Deep Select Tool.

Can you perhaps use layers to accomplish this? For example put your template in a unique layer as well as your door/gate/etc in unique layers.

Then set your display layer as needed to:

template + door
template + gate
template + other
