My over-riding wish for V11 is that someone audits all the tools ... you know, with a nice big ticky-box spreadsheet - checking for ...

1.) function ... does Tool X work in the most basic sense ... and do it's sub-options do so ? (ahem, silhouette curve tool)

2.) does it's use register as expected in the history tree and update as expected without generating an error ? (ahem, extend surface tool)

3.) does it allow for updating in the topbar AND in the Data window of the Inspector ? - and do they stay sync'd (ahem, thumbwheel radius tool)

4.) does Tool X play nicely in terms of associativity - or is this function the one that breaks your model's downstream updatability ? (ahem, split surface tool)

5.) does Tool X allow for ALL the appropriate and expected data input types - ie does it accept groups / multi-selections / smart polygons ? (ahem, surface loft tool)

6.) does Tool X have a well presented and useful Help document ? (ahem, Silhouette Curves tool, actually many of them !)

7.) are the tool prompts (as well as tool rules & limitations !!!) useful, correct, prescriptive and accessible ?

8.) is the icon suggesting the right action ? (Powerpack whilst incredibly useful ... is a mess)

9.) Is the tool and it's function elegant and consistent with others of it's ilk ?

10.) Is there useful human intelligible error feedback ? - Yes I see there is an error, but exactly where and what can I do about it ?

... Until somebody does this - properly - consistency and therefor ease of use will remain a distant pixely Oasis

Agree / disagree / please add !

Jol

True, although someone has previously stated that every eventuality can't be tested, this was on a post I was on, can't remember which. But surely, like you say, a number of checks can be done on the basics? Yes EVERY eventuality would send someone to lose the will to live, but I've seen a number of basic things break as other options get fixed!

I'm slightly worried about upgrade costs on Version 11. I suspect it'll have some good features, and updates but what happens to Version 10? Will support carry on? Will existing version 10 customers get a good upgrade package? My next goal is to go Shark Pro, from Shark but is it worth doing it soon or just wait?

Is there any initial release dates for Version 11?

Jol,

I forwarded your list to Tim for his consideration.

UG - Support for V10 will carry on, I support all the way back to V4 still. It is not often that patches are released for older versions, once newer versions are released. However, Over the years there have been a few updates/patches given to back versions.

As far as costs go, valued customers with older versions do indeed get a good discount when upgrading to newer versions. Although I specific costs will not be determined until the new version is released. I can give you an estimate based on V9 to V10. The upgrade cost from SharkCAD v9 to SharkCAD v10 was 244.99 (retailed at 695.99) and from SharkCAD v9 to SharkCAD Pro v10 was 1319.99 (retailed at 1895.99). Again, we will know more the closer the release of V11 gets. As of right now, we do not have an estimate on the release.
